"This work was created in response to the Covid 19 pandemic and in particular to the establishing of the Nightingale hospital at Belfast City Hospital. The image has been partially removed, with figures and even the building itself seeming to disappear. I feel this speaks to the fragility of the situation that unfolded in 2020 and the environment which I imagine enveloped the hospital at that time.
Suitably, the striking and renowned statement yellow architecture that the hospital is known for, is a central beacon of light in this dark landscape, a testament to the hard work and dedication of the staff at the forefront of this crisis"
The original oil painting 'Nightingale 2020' was selected as one of 200 works out of 1,557 submissions to be exhibited in the Royal Ulster Academy of Arts 140th Annual Exhibition, on show in the Ulster Museum, Belfast from 29th October 2021 - 9th January 2022.
